Is the project an independent initiative? Or is it related to Dimash's team?
This project is independently organized and is NOT affiliated with Dimash's team, this is a fan project!
While this is our first year, we hope to continue this project as our way of documenting fandom growth instead of only relying on typical benchmarks from YouTube views and online engagement.
When will you close the census and expect to have results?
Dec 31, 2023 will be our target date to end the DEAR Census response collection. The survey is intentionally open all year to maximize our fandom participation across the world and to reach as many social media platforms as possible.
Will you share the results of the census? How?
Census results will be compiled in infographic / chart formats and sent out amongst the DEAR Census social media accounts and affiliate websites/pages. We hope to share these results "soon" after the survey closes on Dec. 31 2023!
Are there any challenges or constraints to this type of project?
We recognize that a project of this magnitude presents a number of obstacles and constraints. It is critical that we deliver the most accurate statistics to the public while also remaining transparent in addressing these concerns.
Survey consistency / reach: Despite the project's intentions of global response collection, we are also aware of some countries not being able to access Google as freely as most do. A good portion of the fandom are from China and Russia, and survey reach may not be as strong as here in the North/South Americas, Europe, etc. Furthermore, survey questions such as educational status and social media usage also vary amongst countries; there is no set "way" to quantify and collect responses based on country-varying questions like these. In these cases, we will only provide the closest portrayal of the results as possible while keeping in mind of the international differences in lifestyle.
Expectations: We recognize that capturing a response from every Dear around the world within a year is an ambitious goal. However, we are optimistic that with the fandom's help, we will be able to collect demographic data from a majority of fans and include their journey as a Dear as part of our project.
Survey integrity: Making a survey publicly accessible raises the possibility of data contamination by people who might not be yet acquainted with Dimash and his work. To help prevent this, we plan to investigate and flag / remove anomalous submissions after the survey period ends. We also ask participants to honor our project and answer the survey only once.
Can I use the census results in my own research, paper, article, etc.?
Everyone is more than welcome to! We hope that our findings will be a useful source of information to individuals who are writing and reporting on Dimash Qudaibergen and his Dear fandom. Please let us know in advance if you plan to include references to the DEAR Census project in your work, and appropriately cite and/or give credit when necessary.
What's next?
After completing the survey, please share the project with as many people as possible! Seeing as how the fandom exists on multiple social media platforms, we encourage survey participants to spread the news of the DEAR Census to best achieve our project goals. We also encourage participants to share the results of our findings and help other Dears get in touch with our work after the survey period has ended.
Why can't I see the form / Why is the survey link not opening?
We have received concerns over the DEAR Census not being accessible. The DEAR Census website will have links to take interested participants to the survey form platform, but it is good practice to:
refresh your browser,
clear your browser's cache and cookies,
turn off any plugins and extensions then reload the page,
or try opening the page using another browser
There's also the possibility that Google-related services have been restricted in certain countries. Stay tuned for updates regarding survey availability in these regions!
Is this survey safe to take?
The poll is fully anonymous, with no personal or identifiable information requested. However, please stay vigilant for any phishing scams regarding Google Form links as hackers can distribute similar forms or links via fake emails. As a safety precaution, do not fill out any survey links delivered via email as the DEAR Census will only be available on our Survey page.
Do survey participants have to be a certain age?
Although there are no age restrictions, we do require that participants under 18 obtain verbal consent from a parent or guardian as per survey guidelines.
Why is my data being collected?
The goal of the DEAR Census is to collect demographic information to provide greater insight into the diversity that exists within the Dears fandom. Instead of estimating our fandom size, we want to provide a comprehensive summary of our community since its origins. Additionally, the emphasis on demographics can help determine Dimash's current reach and even give clues towards future fandom trends.
How will my data be used?
Data will be collected and compiled through the Google Form's linked spreadsheet. This survey is strictly for informational purposes and data will not be shared with any third parties. Responses from any one submission will not be individually presented in the final results, and survey responses will not be officially studied until the DEAR Census closing date Dec 31, 2023.
What have you done to prevent Dears from completing the census more than once?
The DEAR Census was designed to be completed once per participant, however we are aware of the possibility of multiple submissions by the same individual. We ask that participants maintain integrity and fill out the survey once. Having honest responses will also help keep results true to our fandom size and reflect as much of the community as fairly as possible.
Will I be able to withdraw my responses after submission? / Is it possible to request removal of my data from the survey results any given time?
Responses can be edited before submission. To edit responses, simply bookmark the census to your browser or close the tab for later completion. Requests to remove responses will not be accepted since there are no personal emails attached to the sent response (due to survey anonymity). Any further questions about the survey should be sent through our email or via DM on Instagram or Twitter.
**A Note On Scam Awareness:
As per Dimash's Instagram post, we remind everyone to be careful about clicking any links outside of our website and social media pages. Please alert us to any scams regarding the DEAR Census survey via our social media below, and help protect the rest of the fandom by spreading awareness of the issue as well!
